Change the shape of your bookshelf like you change your socks. Often… hopefully.

The Squaring movable bookshelf was designed in 2012. In its standard configuration, it looks like just a grid of square boxes mounted on the wall. But, not all is as it seems. Only the center box is attached to the wall leaving the other eight boxes to move freely around the center box like they were Southwest Airlines passengers.

Maybe not quite that freely. The boxes are attached to the others with hinges that allow them to rotate around the center box to create many different shapes. You can even let the different weights of the books in each shelf dictate the angles and shape.

Korean designer Sehoon Lee explains. “Disequilibrium caused by different weights creates a new shape every single time.” Traditionally, shelves are rigid and set. Squaring offers a dynamic and flexible shelving option.
