A W Everyone Can Like
The W is here.
While Starwood Hotels cannot be credited for starting the boutique hotel trend, they did launch it into the mainstream. Trend or not, the boutique hotel is dominating the hospitality industry here and abroad. Quirky and unique is definitely in.
Scottsdale, no stranger to hotel redevelopment, now boasts the W Hotel Scottsdale, the first built-from-ground-up hotel in two decades.
“This is a great time for us as a property, because we feel Scottsdale is maxed out with the normal retreats focused on golf, tennis and the other usual options,” says Leon Young, general manager of W Scottsdale Hotel & Residences. “We are part of a new era in Scottsdale, from a sleepy western town to a more mature modern destination.”
The vibrant property features 224 guestrooms, 18 residences, a Bliss® Spa and three upscale bars and lounges. The W’s glass facade with moveable exterior blinds will constantly change the look of the hotel highlighting the exterior design. The W Scottsdale Hotel will also be home to Arizona’s first Sushi Roku restaurant, which offers a truly unique culinary experience.
“There are amenities for everybody,” says Young. “The design is similar to a lower case letter ‘h’ and it allows for areas to flow together and guests can feel the energy as soon as they enter. The public will see that it has been well worth the wait.”
Another jaw-dropping characteristic of the new property is WET, the hotel’s centerpiece featuring a rooftop pool directly above the valet area with four large, round glass portholes allowing guests below to view the swimmers above.
The W’s design incorporates Jerusalem stone throughout the building, ancient Indonesian petrified wood, and sliding blinds imported from New Zealand. All rooms and suites incorporate breathtaking views of the desert.
“The W Hotel represents casual elegance and we have captured that with this property, while staying true to the indigenous environment,” says Young. “It has been a great ride and the result is a sensory multiplex that definitely enhances Scottsdale and Arizona as a tourist destination.”
